Getting started
- Warm up with bots. Press Practice vs bots on the front page. Use Sandbox if you want bots that cannot hurt you.
- Learn your weapons. The rifle is accurate in bursts, the SMG is best up close, the sniper rewards a steady aim, and the shotgun is deadly at short range. Aiming down sights makes shots much tighter, and shots scatter twice as wide while you are in the air.
- Use cover. Crouch behind low cover to make yourself a smaller target, and peek instead of standing in the open.
- Watch the scoreboard. Hold Tab to see how your team and the other team are doing, ranked by the best performers.
Tips for round-based Standard matches
- You have 20 seconds of buy time at the start of each round. Open the shop with B and use the number keys to buy.
- You get money for kills, for winning rounds and a smaller bonus for losing, so a lost round is not the end. See the game modes page for the rules.
- Smokes block sight, flashbangs blind anyone looking at them, and frags damage everything nearby. Walls stop them.
- As the attacking side, carry the bomb to a site and hold E to plant. Defenders can defuse it by holding E next to it.
Settings that help
Open Settings for key bindings, mouse sensitivity, field of view, volume, a customisable crosshair, colour-blind friendly team colours and graphics options for slower computers. Lower the render resolution if the frame rate is low.
